I've opened this Blog with the idea to support the pilgrimage from Lourdes to Fatima on foot. After opening the Blog, I thought it could be a good medium for sharing my life and my thoughts.

Lei no, è veramente arrabbiata.

Today I woke at 7am still feeling quite tired. I head downstairs and find Simone there, who is also quite tired, so we share some cookies together before we start our journey. After walking only two kilometres, we decide to pull up at the town of Ages and rest. We both share the same idea that you need to take breaks on the road if you want to enjoy the journey. It’s a lovely little metaphor even for everyday life. If one wants to live life to the fullest, you need to stop, reflect and rest.
So we stop at the first bar we find for quite a long time and have a lovely breakfast of croissants and homemade kiwi jam made by Ana Maria the proprietress. She has only been running this place for 2 days and she says that before that she was running a pilgrim’s hostel for a very long time. She tells us she has a simple philosophy for life. In order to be happy, you must do what it is that makes you happy. Ana Maria has found what she loves to do, which is to make welcome pilgrims on the road and managing this bar and restaurant.
I explain to her that even so, there are some who are doing what they love but they still fall into apathy and sadness.
A priest told me that through giving and giving of himself he felt that somehow he became empty and disappeared. Somehow though, it was in this emptiness that he felt himself fill up with the spirit of God and was finally able to give again.
Ana Maria the proprietress doesn’t agree and insists it is her was that is the right way and she then invites us to sleep in her hostel at the price of 10 euros a bed.
Both Simone and I start to feel the beginning of some negative energy and start to pick up the scent of garbage floating in from somewhere. Ana Maria is also now getting quite upset as she explains to us about her newly broken refrigerator door. We tell her not to worry so much as these things will happen, and take this opportunity to take up our journey again and head for the next town.
Phew! We are both quite happy to have left the bar of Ana Maria.
Another 2.5 kms and we arrive at Atapuerca, a small village of 208 inhabitants. Atapuerca is an archaeological site dating back 800,000 years to the Iberian Peninsula. We head to our hotel, which is a private country house and costs only 6 Euros, which also includes dinner. So we leave our backpacks and head into town for something to eat. We find a cute little bar run by a great girl and settle down for a meal of tortilla and really nice glass of red wine.
When we return to the hotel I try to get some writing done and Simone tries to get some sleep because we decided that we would backtrack a little and head back to San Juan de Ortega, where we were the day before, in the late afternoon so that we could catch the 6 o’clock mass.
We left at five thinking that would be plenty of time but somehow took a wrong path and ended up lost on the road well after mass had already started. At 6.30 Simone manages to hail down a passing car and the lovely lady driving gives us a lift to the church in time for communion. After communion I make a blessing, which I dedicate once again to all the new readers of this blog.
Afterwards I speak a while with the priest about the history of the monastery. He then tells me about the ‘miracle of light’ that happens in the days during the equinox. Where a beam of light enters from one of the windows of the church at just the perfect angle in order to illuminate one of the scenes from the life of the Virgin Mary.
It is now 8 o’clock and we decide to head back for out hotel so that we can have dinner. We arrive at back there at 9 sharp and our hotel proprietress does not want to feed us as she says dinner is served until 9 o’clock only. Fortunately for us a waiter comes from the kitchen and apologises, explaining that she has had a bad day, and that he will serve us dinner. This makes Simone and myself very happy and we enjoy our dinner very much.
It is now late and Simone goes off to bed and I sit up until 2.10 am so that I can work on my blog. It does make me wonder where all this energy is coming from.
A big hug to you all and goodnight.
